What Can I Tow?
Understanding your vehicle’s tow rating capacity is critical to choosing the right RV for you and your family. Here are a few key terms to become familiar with when determining tow rating:
TERMS & DEFINITIONS
Dry Weight: The amount of weight put on the trailer ball of your towing vehicle when the trailer is unloaded of water and gear.
GVW / GVWR; The maximum operating weight/mass of a RV as specified by the manufacturer including the vehicle's chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers and cargo.
Cargo Weight: The actual weight of all items added to the Curb Weight of the RV.
Tongue / Hitch Weight: The weight that a fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball of the tow vehicle.
Pin Weight: The weight that a fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball of the tow vehicle.
Payload Capacity: The total amount of weight the vehicle can carry.
Max Towing Capacity: The maximum allowable weight that a vehicle can tow.
